Homework

5ST HOMEWORK
REQUIREMENTS

TERM 3

All weekly home learning is to be submitted via google classroom before 8:00pm Sunday evening.

READING

20 minutes reading per night, following your reading you must fill in your reading ‘Term 2 e-journal’  on Google Slides (in your home learning folder)  .  You must make  an insightful comment about what you have read each evening including pages read and how long you read for. Avoid re-telling the story in your reflection. You can provide a brief summary of what you read, however consider including your thoughts/feelings about the book/text/plot/characters; how the text might relate you you; the world; another text you’ve read. Perhaps make a prediction or some other insightful comment from what you read.

If you are reading late at night in bed you could write your reflections on a post it note and transfer them to your E-Journal the following day.

Your teachers are able to log into your online reading journal on Google Drive at any time and should be able to see daily updates.

Your online e-reading journal should be turned in weekly on Google Classroom.

After 5 nights reading you are required to ask your parents to leave a comment regarding your weeks reading.  This needs to be completed at the bottom of each of your weekly slides and is a homework requirement.

MATHLETICS

Eachs week you will be set 3 new tasks. You are also asked to spend some time gaining a minimum of 500 points on Live Mathletics as part of your maths homework task.

When you have completed your Live Mathletics  take a screenshot and paste it into your weekly  ‘Home Learning Journal’. You are also to compllete a reflection which is to be turned in on Google Classroom.

You are also required to keep up to date with learning times tables. We have done a huge amount of learning during semester 1 with timestables – and it is your responsibility to keep practicing at home.  Below are some websites you can use to practice your tables.  Remember any times tables work you do needs to be added to your learning journal slide.

TOP MARKS TIMES TABLES

INTERACTIVE MATHS GAMES

Any homework task that is not complete will have to be completed during your lunch time.

Additional tasks – Usually for your Australian History timeline.

Check google classroom for any additional tasks that need to be completed for home learning.

If you have any problems with any part of your homework please email one of us well before the due date.  We are happy to help.

  1. Hi Mrs Michalke,
Thank you SOOO MUCH! That helped me completely! Now I can find all my amazing words! This is the most fun homework that I have done (I think)!
    Francis

  2. Dear Mrs M,
Lets say we read Thursday,Friday,Saturday. Are we still aloud to read on Sundays because you said we can’t fill in Sundays I’m just a bit confused.

  3. So with Boggle Francis, you can make words using letters from anywhere on the board but you can only use a letter as many times as it appears on the board. For example you can not use the word apple if there is only one p on the board. Your letters do not have to connect. Hope your back is feeling better. Mrs Michalke.

  4. Hi Francis
If you have a look in your homework file on google docs you will see I have created a folder that says Term 4 Reading Journal. I have shared it with all students and is ready for you to type into. All you have to do is type your name on the front page. Hope this helps. Mrs Michalke.

  5. Hi Mrs Michalke and Mrs Thompson (AGAIN!),
Sorry for so many questions but for the reading journal, is it a file already or do we have to make one? Please reply ASAP (If you don’t mind… AGAIN!) Again, sorry for bothering you.
    Bye!
    Francis 😀

  6. Hi Mrs Michalke and Mrs Thompson,
For the ‘Boggle’ homework, how does it work? Can you make a word m letters all over the place or do they have to be connected? I am wondering because I have some really good words but they’re all over the place. Plus, I was away on Tuesday. Please reply ASAP so I can do the homework please (If you don’t mind). Thank and bye!
    From Francis 🙂

  7. No sorry Adriana you can only use the letter once if it only appears once on the boggle board. So no apple! Good question though.

  8. Hi Mrs M and Mrs T,
With the boggle homework can we use the same letter twice in a word for example if there was only 1 P and I wanted to do apple could I use the same P two times in one word?
    thanks
    please reply ASAP
    ONCE AGAIN THANKS

  9. Hey Mrs T and Mrs M,
I had a lot of fun in homework! My favorite task was the scribble words because it allowed me to use my creativity! I love the homework tasks you give us. They are not boring tasks, they are fun 🙂

  10. Hi Mrs T and Mrs M,
I love this weeks spelling homework(week 9) it is so much fun and i did it on the first day we got it and I am all done! I love the Morse code converter it was really cool and the spelling scribble was also really fun I put lots of color into that!

    From Kiara

  11. Renee, we need to present our work neatly and of a year 5 standard. In saying that a scribble is a scribble so the actual scribble can be messy if you need to mess something up! Mrs M

  12. Thanks Mrs M, it was a nice video, although I have found another one. Was it hard for you to find a video without subtitles or words?
Thank you very much for trying,
    Cherry 🙂

  13. Dear Mrs M,
For our Project, I ‘m having trouble finding a video that has no subtitles or words. Most of the palm oil videos have words. Could you please help me when you have the time?
    Thank you so much,
    Cherry 🙂

  14. Hi Mrs M and Mrs T,
I was wondering if the two links (5s & 5t doc) were supposed to lead to the same doc? 5s and 5t are writing on the same document.
Sorry, I just wanted to know
    From Julie 🙂

  15. I love this week’s homework! I am making a dream-catcher as my mobile. Thank-you for setting this as our homework task. It is a fun way to learn new things.

    🙂 😀 😉

  16. Thanks Mrs M! I tried Googling the Kid’s Version myself, and it was very descriptive! It helped me a lot because it explained what the teachings are and how they are shown in the real world in very descriptive language.
    Cherry

  17. Hello Mrs Michompson, Thank you for always making homework fun for us also easy and cre8tive I love homework

    Jess

  18. Maybe try to Google them in a Kid’s Version if this is a bit confusing for you? Maybe Google “the seven teachings of the catholic church for kids”. You might want to write them down, because it is hard to remember all!
    Cherry

  19. Adriana, the Catholic Social teachings are listed on our blog on the homework page right before the task. All you have to do is read them from there. If you do this and still have a problem please let me know.

  20. Mrs M,
Do we do the principles of the catholic social teachings?
because I don’t even know what the catholic social teachings are.
    Please help
    Adriana
    Thank you

  21. Thanks Mrs M! I have one last question…. Could we make it however we want, so all different styles? I was thinking of drawing pictures of the real world then adding an explanation hanging down from the it. That’s okay, right?
    Thank you very much,
    Cherry

  22. Cherry we are doing our mobiles about the Catholic Social teachings that are listed on the homework explanation. We can discuss this some more tomorrow. Mrs M

  23. Cherry you could do your mobile any way you wish, 3D 2D we will leave it up to you. You are very creative I’m sure you will come up with something fantastic. Mrs M

  24. Dear Mrs T and Mrs M,
I’m just wondering about our weekly mini project, because I don’t know if we need to make our mobile pictures about our Social Justice Issue? And do we need to draw a picture of the real world and then write about it?
    Thank you,
    Cherry 🙂

  25. Dear Mrs M,
For our Caritas homework, if one slide answers two questions, we don’t have to make a new slide for that second question, right?
    Thank you,
    Cherry

  26. So five of each? OK, thank you. I had 10 soft c words so I’m just double checking. I’ve already started spelling though.
